Spoilers alee for Episode 18 of Arrow Season 6, chosen "Fundamentals."
John Diggle has been an essential role of Arrow from the beginning, and he brought invaluable skills to Team Arrow as Oliver's right-mitt man. Unfortunately for Oliver, he and his former best bro had a falling out that resulted in a brawl in the Arrow bunker and Digg making the huge decision to leave Team Pointer. Now, in seasons past, rifts in Team Arrow didn't e'er last for more than a handful of episodes, but David Ramsey (who plays Diggle) already revealed to CinemaBlend that won't be the instance this time around. He also explained how Digg'due south determination to leave the team will continue to impact Oliver and the show moving forward, saying this:
John Diggle will join A.R.One thousand.U.S. But you know, the breakup that he had with Oliver and the subsequent joining with A.R.G.U.Due south. doesn't necessarily mean that he doesn't work with Oliver anymore. He does. And he will in the capacity in which they can agree, and the same thing with the new Team Arrow. So we all kind of have different philosophies as to how to skin this true cat, how to catch Diaz. But where we agree, we're willing to work together.
Diggle and Oliver are still going to be able to piece of work together in the fight to take downward Ricardo Diaz, but according to David Ramsey, they won't be working together the way they once did. Digg will have a dissimilar kind of autonomy every bit an agent of A.R.G.U.S. (which just so happens to be run by his wife) than he did as Oliver'south correct-manus man, and given the events of the last few episodes of Season half-dozen, it'southward safe to say that he and Oliver are going to accept different ideas about how to do what needs to be done. The skillful news is that they seemed to be done with physically fighting each other later on their blowout in the bunker. Hopefully that means any further disagreements will exist worked out without battling it out on pinnacle of Felicity'southward computers.
Of course, Diggle won't exist the simply ane in a new position moving frontward in Season half dozen. In "Fundamentals," Oliver came to the conclusion (after spending the episode overwhelmed by Vertigo) that he needs to become back to the basics of vigilantism, and for him, that means all the way back to the nuts. He intends to fight the proficient fight alone now, and he may cease up needing Diggle sooner rather than later. After all, Oliver didn't actually make all that much headway in his mission to save Star(ling) Urban center back in Flavour 1 until he brought Diggle and and then Felicity on board, and he may discover sooner rather than later that he needs to accept aid. Perhaps learning to work with Diggle rather than expecting Diggle to follow his directions volition ready him on the right path. David Ramsey also told me this nigh what the separation will mean for Diggle in detail:
Both these men have some growing to exercise. And there'south some deeper things going on with Diggle that we'll see kind of fleshed out in his experience with Oliver. This isn't about him wanting to exist Green Arrow as much as it is him wanting to experience like his decisions make a difference. And I think the losses that he's suffered, he hasn't fully dealt with. The loss of his brother, how his brother's death led direct to the decease of the Canary. We kind of saw him deal with some of that and going to prison, but Diggle has e'er been someone who's bounced back very easily and I think, like Oliver, these things have taken deeper toll on Diggle than fifty-fifty he wants to admit. So we'll see some of that.
Every bit much as Oliver has sustained loss after loss over the years on Pointer, Diggle has lost a smashing deal as well, and he hasn't gotten the adventure to process everything in recent years. His time away from Oliver could help him grow and truly grasp how he wants to do what he wants to do moving frontward. He'll have more to do than encompass Oliver's dorsum and give Oliver communication, and that may exist for the best for both men. They might never have changed if they stayed partners and best bros because they wouldn't have had the necessary motivation for growth; as heartbreaking as that large fight and the subsequent separation is, both Diggle and Oliver may be better off in the long run.
We'll have to look and run into what happens side by side for Oliver and Diggle every bit they go along to deal with the aftermath of their big fight and split. Melody in to Arrow on Thursdays at 9 p.thousand. ET on The CW to run into David Ramsey in action as John Diggle. Ramsey volition as well appear in an upcoming episode of some other Pointer-poetry serial.
